2:24 pm - Viento!
|
To most people that understand Spanish -- Viento means wind. However, to me it means a large ass Burnable CD collection that I purchased SO many years ago for SO cheap. Well, today is the landmark day for me where I am officially out of Viento CDs.
I thought it was worth documenting. :)

11:57 pm - What has been going on anyway?!
|
I got this nudge from Reesey today asking WTF's been going on with me. Yeah, so it's been about 15 weeks since my last post.. I suppose there are some points I can elaborate on. I'll separate them so you can read what you care about.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= My Work
I'm still trying to find a career that suits me; I always seem to find there weird jobs that no one would ever really think about doing, but pay pretty decently. I actually worked for Chevrolet for a while, but that didn't work out. Right now I'm at a pretty stable company that makes antennas.
Wait.
What was that again?
That's right, a company that manufactures antennas that go on boats and buildings. I'm their lead technician because I happen to know a lot about RF (Radio Frequency) signal, harmonics, cabling and.. most importantly, being able to tell people that their perception of reality isn't right and have them remain happy when I'm done with them. It's a pretty decent job; I've been there for about 6 months now.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= My Gaming
So last time I updated, I was playing World of Warcraft. Since the expansion came out, I've been pretty unhappy with the game so I basically quit altogether. I played Vanguard for a while which is another MMORPG, but it was very buggy. So, I ended up getting myself and Robin into Everquest 2. I played this game when it first came out in December 04 and I never really had time to dedicate to it. I actually like it a lot. The community as a whole is more mature and it appears to be a much more difficult game. I've found that I like games with a lot of depth. When I played something like.. say.. Guild Wars, I was really not entertained. Not enough depth.
In other news, I have a Wii and a PS3 as well. Right now I'm playing Resistance: Fall of Man on the PS3 which is a shooter. I discovered I don't like shooters when playing against others online on a console. I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I think I need a USB keyboard/mouse because I can't fathom people are using the PS3 controller and are as accurate as they are.
I'm also playing Indigo Prophecy which is NOT an RPG. It's probably one of the best storytelling drahma games I've ever played. Ever.
I also finished up Super Paper Mario on the Wii and maxx0red out on Guitar Hero 2.
I'm ALSO playing Rogue Galaxy for the PS2 which is a pretty decent RPG.
I've been very very busy in the gaming deparatment and I spend a lot of my free time doing that. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= My Girl
So I'm still with Robin. We plan on getting married in 2008 if all goes well. We're making initial plans now. In May 2008 we will have been together for 5 years so we're thinking we might do it in May.
It's interesting to see what's been happening to all my ex-girlfriends. Jen got married to some guy named Jerimiah. Brooke got married to Stewart. Vicky.. well.. I have no fucking clue what happened to her. And, of course you can read about Reesey and Seredipity779 here on LJ. Maggie Kirkland is going for a Doctorate degree at Cornell in some kind of Astrological Science which is pretty awesome.
So, with the exception of Vicky (who is MIA), everyone seems to be doing pretty well for themselves.
Robin does about the same as I do, plays video games and likes to watch various shows, movies, and sporting events. If you don't know her, you can read about her and more about me then I write in her LJ which is Blackdecember8. She posts pictures of me and her and all kinds of crap, so comment if you care to know THAT much. She updates a lot and can talk the snot out of you about rock bands. She's crazy about Smashing Pumpkins and Linkin Park of which I care about neither, but you are free to help yourself to her oogling of them. =)
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= My Car
So I'm currently driving a Pontiac G6, metallic gray in color. I traded in the Black Civic I had a few years ago. Not sure if I ever mentioned it here, so if not, here it is.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= My Cell Phone
I still have the same cell number I've had for years. I've gotten a bunch of e-mails asking for it, so if ya wanna call me, feel free:
1-954-257-1608
I work normal hours (9A-5P, M-F) so if anyone wants to hang out on the weekend or whatever, lemme know.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= My Apartment
My apartment is pretty nice. It's a 2/2 in the heart of Sunrise, FL on the corner of Oakland and Pine Island Rd. Robin and I had a room mate, but he got a girl pregnant and moved in with her about 2 months ago (there's more drahma to this story, but I'll leave it out) so now we have it to ourselves. We spend the majority of our free time here.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
I've been keeping up with everyone's LJ's which is especially entertaining. Tempus has some pretty good entries, so if you don't read his, add him. He's the man.
That's about it for now.

4:43 pm - Remove that crap
|
Microsoft resorted to nagware for unregistered versions of software. It was pretty annoying -- especially since it was on my WORK computer and I had to deal with it. That is, until I found these instructions to remove that crap =).
How to Remove Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications
Windows genuine advantage notifications occur when your computer hasn't passed the validation test. The validation test can be failed due to being sold a pirated (non-genuine) copy of XP, or because you have changed your XP product key to a software-generated key, or sometimes it just happens for no reason at all. The failed validation installs three types of notifications on your computer: one on the log in screen, one log in timer, and one balloon. It also stops updates from Microsoft and disables your ability to install IE7 and Windows Media Player 11. This solution can get rid of all three notifications, even though you will still not be able to update through Windows Update. You will not be able to download things from Microsoft that requires a valid license either.
Steps
1. If you have only just installed Windows Genuine Advantage notifications, simply using the system restore function will remove the program. Then refuse to accept the WGA update next time Windows updates... Otherwise, proceed as detailed below.
2. Open System32 by either A or B of the following methods:
a) Click "Start", "Run", then type-in "System32". Click "Okay".
b) Find System32 manually by clicking "Start" > "My Computer" > "(X:)" (Replacing "X" with the drive letter of the host of Windows) > "Windows" > "System32".
3. In "System32", go to "Tools" > "Folder options" > click on the tab, "View" > Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Now you can begin...
4. Check to make sure the window that comes up has a full screen of various files. The files are in alphabetical order, which makes it easier to locate the specific file.
5. Find "WgaLogon.dll" and rename it "WgaLogon.dll.bak".
6. Create an empty copy of WgaLogon.dll:
Right click on a blank space in System32 and select "New" > "Text Document". Leave the text document empty and label it "WgaLogon.dll". Press Enter (on your keyboard). You may get a warning from the above step that says, "If you change a file name extension, the file may become unusable. Are you sure you want to change it?". Click "Yes" on this warning.
7. Be ready to complete the next two steps very quickly! Find "WgaTray.exe" in "System32" and delete it. You will then have 5 seconds to find "WgaTray.exe" in the Task Manager (the next step).
8. Immediately open Task Manager. You can do this by pressing the Ctrl, Shift, and Esc keys simultaneously, pressing the Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys simultaneously, or right clicking the Taskbar and selecting "Task Manager". Click on the process tab and click end process when "WgaTray.exe" is selected. Note: If you take longer, do NOT panic! All that will happen is that "WgaTray.exe" will keep reapearing in the processes list (i.e. you won't be able to delete it as required). To remove the notifications after this, return to system32. You will find two files:"WgaLogon.dll.bak" (the one you renamed) and an Application Extension (0KB) called "WgaLogon.dll". Delete the Application Extension, rename "WgaLogon.dll.bak" to "WgaLogon.dll" and repeat the steps from the fifth one onwards (at a greater speed!!).
9. Restart your computer once you have finished. All the notification messages should be gone.
And they all rejoiced....

Things are moving along -- slowly but surely.
I found out yesterday that the polygraph I have to take is administered 'somewhere' in Miami. Apparently I'm going to have to drag myself down thereand spend the greater portion of a day doing this. Then the results take a WEEK to get.
Additionally, I have to take a medical exam (paid for by them) in some clinic in Tamarac. I really hate the ideas of walk in clinics. I've been to a few before and it's just icky. It's like they reuse needles or something. Well.. that's probably not true. Probably.
In other news I saw two movies last night: Happy Endings and Around the Bend. They were both not too bad.
Additionally I have a job interview scheduled for Thursday at 9AM and may have another one coming up as well. I wonder how I'm going to get the time off of work for all this stuff. I could be 'sick' --- but my company doesn't give out sick time or personal time, or any benefits of any kind really (hence why I am leaving). It's a bit stressful actually, but exciting at the same time.
I'm moving to Sunrise. Why? Because Robin and I found a 2/2 which is 33% bigger for the same price as our 1/1 will be after the rent increases this month.
Apartment prices here are stupid. How can we justify paying over $1000 for rent every month? That's a lot of money for housing. We're both going to work hard over the new few years to save for a house. To help out with that, we're getting a roommate for this new 2/2. A friend of ours for 4 years, so that should remove some of the pressure. I've never had an official 'roommate' before, but I lived with this guy for a few months and it worked out alright -- so we're pretty happy about it.
That's it for now!

3:01 pm - Letters!
|
Alright -- here's an update on the job situation.
Letters went out to people I know. As part of the thorough investigation they do, everyone that is a known associate of mine may have received a letter in the mail. Robin received one today.
Apparently it has about 15 questions on it.
If you received a letter, please fill it out and mail it in the self-addressed stamped envelope that was provided. They told me this was the part that takes the longest because people are usually slow or unwilling to answer short answer (not-multiple choice) questions and then stick it in the mail.
So.. please.. if you got one -- do a brother a favor. =)
I don't get to know who gets them; I think it's supposed to be a secret or something.
They said they will also go out an interview some people in person. So.. yeah.. I'm inconveniencing everyone. =)
Thanks in advance for your support?

9:00 am - Turn in your papers before 9:00AM!

y0
Sorry I've been hard to get a hold of recently -- I've been preoccupied with trying to secure a city job with the City of Sunrise. Alright, so I know what you may be thinking. WTF -- the salary is crap and you already make much more then that! It's not about the money this time. I don't know.. this is something I really want to do. Sending out police, answering 911 calls.. seems interesting to me. Plus, working for the city gives crazy benefits!
Today (this morning) I turned in a packet of information that was unbelieveably complicated. It's crazy how much information the city needs to consider you for a job.
I hope it works out.
Pete, Becca, Robin -- you're gonna get letters in the mail.. you gotta fill out whatever it says and return it. Like ASAP. I'm going to bother you about it. A lot. =)
Who knows... in a few months I may be saving peoples' lives. Fo sho' =)

3:53 pm - Not fired -- but close enough
|
So, I didn't actually get fired -- but it was close enough.
They already fired the rest of the company, I'm surprised I lasted this long. Time to step it up to the next level on the job search.
